The winter monsoon is bringing cold weather to the coastal areas of Guangdong. Today, the lowest temperature in the urban area of Hong Kong is about 8 degrees. At about 6 am, the temperature recorded by the Observatory was only 7.7 degrees.
In Tai Mo Shan, the highest in Hong Kong, the temperature once dropped to minus 2.3 degrees, which was the lowest since the beginning of winter.
From 12:00 midnight to 6:00 am, Tai Mo Shan fell below zero several times, at about 1:20 in the morning, at minus 0.3 degrees Celsius, and at about 2:50 in the morning, at minus 0.8 degrees Celsius.
Then the temperature rose slightly to a positive number, and at about 4:40 in the morning, the temperature fell again to a negative number, to minus 1.9 degrees; around 6 in the morning, it dropped to minus 2.3 degrees.
However, the dry environment and strong winds on high ground make it more difficult to cause frost. The Observatory has not issued a frost warning.
In addition to issuing cold weather warnings, the Observatory also issued yellow fire hazard warnings and strong monsoon signals.
"Hong Kong 01" went to the "gate" location of Tai Mo Shan at about 4 a.m., and measured it with a thermometer provided by himself, and it recorded about minus 1 degree.
The scene was quite windy with drizzle, and the rain did not stop until about 5 am.
However, there was no frosting.
After last year’s New Year’s Eve, Tai Mo Shan fell below zero again.
However, there were no crowds and traffic congestion at the Tai Mo Shan Gate this time. The number of people is considered to be very small, mainly morning commuters who go up the mountain every day and the weather does not change; only a small number of people come here deliberately.
The Wangs took a taxi from Tsuen Wan to the mountain at 4 o'clock in the morning. They said it was just to feel the cold temperature, not to wait for the frost.
Around 5 am, the Observatory recorded 7.8 degrees, and Tai Mo Shan fell to minus 2.2 degrees, which is the coldest since the beginning of winter.
Tai Mo Shan has repeatedly recorded negative Celsius temperatures.
