Think about your electricity consumption.
This is the call launched by the manager of the electricity transmission network in France (RTE) while the cold has permanently installed in France (between -4 and -4.5 ° C below the seasonal norms) .
In order to reduce their consumption, he therefore advises the French to adopt, this Friday from 7:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., several measures to offset this increase.

According to RTE, this consumption will reach a high level on Friday, at some 88,000 MW.
If production
"will be sufficient, at 88,200 MW, to cover all needs",
assures RTE, the situation deserves the greatest vigilance.
As evidenced by the map of France presented all in red on the site, monécowatt.fr, produced by RTE in partnership with the ecological transition agency (ADEME).
"We must reduce our consumption to avoid any risk of cuts", we
explain.
Indeed,
“In the rare cases where all the electricity needs could not be met, local, controlled cuts lasting a maximum of 2 hours could be organized.
The Ecowatt site will then give each French person all the information in real time to deal with the situation ”
.
The days of this Thursday and Saturday are in green, meaning that
"our electricity consumption is reasonable"
.
The reasons for such a situation can be found in the health crisis, the consequences of which are felt on the production of electricity.
“For example, it delayed the maintenance of nuclear power plants and slowed down the installation of new means of production”
.
Turn off the lights and turn down the heat
The French are therefore invited to reduce their consumption through
"eco-gestures"
.
Among them: turning off unused lights, postponing the use of certain devices, avoiding charging your mobile phone between 8 a.m. and 1 p.m. and from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. as well as lowering the temperature of your home to 16 or 17 degrees in the event of absence during the day and during the night.
For example, if all French people turn off a light bulb, an electricity consumption saving of 600 MW is achieved, approximately the consumption of a city like Toulouse, quotes RTE.
Called upon, the French are not the only ones able to act to prevent electricity cuts.
RTE has other levers such as interruptibility (stopping consumption of industrial sites under contract with RTE) and a 5% drop in grid voltage (which slightly reduces the performance of electrical devices).
The network can also mobilize electricity from neighboring European countries.
Regarding power cuts,
“the use of targeted cuts of homes could not be completely ruled out.
However, this in no way corresponds to a risk of black-out across the country, ”
he said.
