It's the end of an era.
Free confirms the end of its FreeWifi service, announced by the specialized site UniversFreebox.
However, the FreeWifi_Secure service is maintained.

For the uninitiated, these services allowed Free subscribers to have access to a Wifi network.
The principle of operation was based on sharing.
Holders of a Freebox agreed to share Wi-Fi access with other subscribers, and could access this same service.
It is now over.
Xavier Niel confirmed the discontinuation of this service, arguing that the territory's 4G coverage was now sufficiently dense to make it possible to do without WiFi on the move.
At home, you can of course continue to use your WiFi and share it with your friends.
FreeWifi-Secure for FreeMobile subscribers
A nuance should be added, since the Free Wifi Secure service, that is to say, the Wifi network accessible from his mobile, as a Free Mobile subscriber, continues.
The Wifi connection can be made automatically with the subscriber number.
In other words, to benefit 100% from Free services, it is better to be a fixed-line and mobile subscriber.
With this decision, Free may hope to migrate more people to these convergent offers (fixed and mobile).
It is also a way to lighten the service: with good 4G, the use of Wi-Fi on the move loses its appeal.
