The new restrictions will take effect starting tonight, January 8 at midnight, and will be enforced for exactly two weeks - until Thursday, January 21.

However, the director general of the Ministry of Health, Professor Hezi Levy, said today that there is a reasonable chance that the closure will be extended beyond the two weeks set.

During the closure period, an exit limit of up to one kilometer from the place of residence will apply.

Even within the mileage limit, it will not be possible to stay at another person's home.

This, with the exception of a few exceptions that have been defined, including going out for immunization, medical or social care, demonstration, legal proceedings, going out for sports activities (not by way of getting to a place in a vehicle), transferring a minor between separated parents, going to work or to an educational setting. How will the education system work?

According to the government's approval, the opening of educational institutions will be banned during the closure period - with the exception of special education and institutions for at-risk youth.

Education Minister Yoav Galant announced today that special education studies will continue to take place even on quarantine days, for five days a week until 2 p.m.

In addition, boarding activities will be allowed on the closed track for at least 30 days - without the possibility of being admitted back to the boarding school for a student who has left it.

How will the economy operate and who has been exempted from the restrictions?

The businesses that will continue to operate during the closure are the workplaces that provide essential services, factories that provide subsistence services, and workplaces that engage in construction or infrastructure work.

Furthermore, any employer may allow an employee to stay in the workplace if it is required for the maintenance of the place or the continuation of its functional activities, including repair of defects, maintenance, deliveries, wage payments and more.

In addition, specific provisions have been established for establishments with a special permit to employ a worker during rest hours, defense industries and security-supporting establishments, government ministries, local authorities, religious councils and institutions of higher education.

It will also be possible to employ a babysitter to take care of the children of the nuclear family, and it will be possible to employ housekeeping workers such as for renovation or cleaning work.

To the list of vital workplaces were also added employees of the legal system, who would remain open but hold only urgent hearings.

Attorneys will work in cases where they have to represent clients before the courts or other institutions, prepare for representation, or provide an essential service to a client who does not suffer a delay and cannot be performed by an alternative digital means.

Employees who are required to assist the Knesset Central Election Committee or the Knesset Regional Election Committee were also excluded, for the purpose of holding the upcoming elections.

Employers who meet the various conditions and will continue to operate are required to continue to meet the conditions of the purple mark.

In what format will public transportation operate?

Public transportation will operate during the closure, but its capacity will be reduced to 50% of the capacity it operates on normal days.

Departure abroad and entry into Israel

Only those who purchased a flight ticket before entering the closure will be allowed to fly abroad, except with special permission exceptions. Also, those entering Israel from countries where the morbidity is defined as high will be charged with isolation in a motel, to prevent the spread of new corona strains found in Britain and South Africa.

How will the strict restrictions be enforced?

Police forces will be reinforced units of the Police, the blade 433, the National Collegiate police officers, police staff and more. Also, the airborne unit of the police will act to provide information about traffic jams, crowds are forbidden, and others.
