The federal and state governments have made changes to the previous rules for entry from risk areas.
Find out what applies from January 11th here.
On January 5, the federal and state governments took tightened measures to contain the corona virus.
This also affects the entry regulations for holidaymakers who were traveling in a risk area.
New rules: What now applies to travelers returning from Corona risk areas
Since November 8th, a
ten-day quarantine
obligation has been in effect for those returning from risk areas *
.
This can only be shortened by a negative test result.
However, the test may only be carried out on the fifth day of quarantine at the earliest.
Nothing will change in this regulation.
However, there is an additional step to be taken for those returning to travel:
The government is relying on a two-test strategy from January 11th
.
That means: In addition to the quarantine, a
compulsory corona test
must now be carried out
upon entry
.
This can be done either within 48 hours before arrival or immediately after entry.
In addition, on the basis of the 3rd Civil Protection Act, the federal government wants to issue separate rules on the obligation to test for those returning from special risk areas.
This means countries like the UK that are at higher risk due to the spread of mutations of the coronavirus or high incidences.
In addition, the
digital entry
registration
must still
be completed.
Although there is no general ban, the federal and state governments also point out in their resolution that travel to risk areas without good reason must be avoided.

Corona: North Rhine-Westphalia with its own entry rules for travelers returning
Another path is being taken in North Rhine-Westphalia:
Here, travelers returning should decide between a corona test or ten-day quarantine
.
The corona test can be carried out 48 hours before entry or immediately afterwards - rapid tests are also allowed.
If the result is negative, there is no quarantine.
The reason for this special route are "ambiguities in the federal infection protection law", as a spokesman for the NRW Ministry of Health explained.
