Between 2008 and 2015, a room located in Levallois-Perret and not supposed to be operated was rented to various companies, the Nanterre prosecutor's office told AFP.

The daughter of Patrick Balkany, who owned companies that benefited from this room, is also targeted by the procedure and has been placed in police custody.

The son-in-law of the former mayor as his chief of staff were also placed in police custody, as well as other people, according to the prosecution.

Convicted on appeal for tax evasion

The investigation was entrusted to the Central Office for the Fight against Corruption and Financial and Tax Offenses (OCLCIFF), said the Nanterre prosecutor's office.

The Balkany couple were convicted on appeal in March for tax evasion and in May for money laundering.
