The Police Investigations Department announced today (Thursday) that the case against the policeman who shot dead a mentally ill resident of Rosh HaAyin, who attacked and stabbed him with a knife, was closed.
The DIP decision states that the police officer acted in self-defense, and the case was closed in the absence of guilt.
The attack itself was documented on cameras set up at the scene, and the documentation, which was distributed on the networks and in the media, served as one of the main pieces of evidence in the case in which the police officer was questioned with a warning.
"From all the evidence gathered by DIP, it emerged that in the circumstances specified, the policeman acted in self-defense and that he was in real danger of injury, and he was also injured in the incident as a result of stabbing a knife in his leg," the decision said. "Opening fire to fend off an attack with a hot or cold weapon, which put the policeman in danger of actual and immediate harm to his life."

The DIP investigation revealed that the mother of the assailant who was shot, Shirel Habura, called the police to warn that her son, who suffers from a mental illness, is threatening to stab cats and dogs. The policeman in Shirel, however, since there was no suspicion that he had committed a criminal offense, explained to the family that he could not detain or arrest him.
Shirel's family members tried to persuade the policeman to evict him from the house. , To consult with them on how to proceed, and was instructed to refer the family to the district psychiatrist, as there was no suspicion of a criminal offense committed by Shirel.

The investigation reveals that immediately after the call was made, surprisingly, the assailant started running towards the policeman, holding a knife and trying to stab the policeman in the head and upper body.
The policeman tried to get away, but the assailant managed to get him and stabbed him in the leg.
In response, the policeman tried to escape from Shirel because he felt danger to his life, kicked him away, and began to run away from him as Shirel chased after him.

From the video documenting the incident, it appears that Shirel is very close to the policeman and tries to stab him.
The policeman pulled out his weapon while trying, through it and while running he fired "several bullets", according to DIP. Both on the ground, "the policeman noticed that Shirel was trying to get up, so he got up and fired several bullets at him, at a fast pace."
