Pelé recently reopened the debate on who is the top scorer in professional football by showing on his social networks the number that supports the Guinness record of 1,283 goals and that FIFA itself supports by recognizing that he scored more than 1,200.

The answer came shortly after Juventus gave their striker that place after scoring a double against Udinese on January 3 and officially reaching 758 goals, against the 757 that 'Vecchia Signora' and others attribute to O Rei.

Pelé wrote in his Instagram biography to be the top scorer in history with 1,283 goals.

But the confusion of who is the top scorer in history goes further, because other bodies in charge of football statistics place Pelé in different places and with a total of 767 goals.

The Football and Sports Statistics Foundation (RSSSF) ranks the Czech-Austrian Josef Bican as the top scorer in history with more than 805 verified goals in official matches.

In the ranking, Brazilian Romario appears second with 772 and Pelé is in third place with 767.

Meanwhile, the International Federation of Football History and Statistics (IFFHS) gives Pelé first place with the aforementioned 767, escorted by Cristiano Ronaldo.
