And then suddenly he's there, on the podium in the US Senate, at the center of power.
A bearded man with a fur hat and horns on his head, his bare torso full of tattoos, a heavy metal chain around his neck, his face made up in red, white and blue.
Like a harbinger from hell.
He is holding an American flag in his hand.
He looks around.
All the senators have fled.
The room is empty except for a handful of men who have broken into Parliament with him.
“Where's Pence?
Show yourself! ”Shout the intruders.
US Vice President Mike Pence should see to it in the Senate that the votes of the electorate confirming the election of future President Joe Biden are properly counted.
Usually, it is a solemn moment in the democratic succession when a president leaves office.
But the fact that Pence is even involved makes him a figure of hatred for many supporters of the still president.
The man in the fur hat is called Jake Angeli and looks like he has fallen out of a dark computer game.
He is an ardent fan of Donald Trump and at the same time a staunch supporter of right-wing conspiracy theory QAnon.
Angeli has achieved a certain prominence in the conspiracy scene as a »Q-Shaman«.
For months he has been appearing at rallies and events to protest for the president, and he has also been a counter-demonstrator in "Black Lives Matter" protests.
He told an interviewer last summer that he wanted to show the president that there were patriots who supported him in everything he did.
Trump can hardly wish for a more devoted supporter.
