Hamburg Justice Senator under pressure: lobster eating and other problems

2021-01-08T19:58:50.956Z

Anna Gallina's ex-partner apparently had joint restaurant visits paid for by the state. Does Hamburg's head of the Greens have to resign from her government office now?

A rescue ship in the Mediterranean Sea, helpers hand out life jackets to refugees in distress.

The Hamburg Greens boss Anna Gallina is on board the ship, she weighs a small child and sings in a soft voice.

The scenes are from May 2017, Gallina shared them on Facebook.

The politician accompanied the aid organization Sea-Eye from Malta.

She said it was about "helping to save the people" off the Libyan coast.

What Gallina didn't mention was an appointment a few days after her mission on the high seas.

In Malta, she attended a dinner that included lobster.

The bill apparently went to the taxpayer, as the "Bild" newspaper revealed.

Gallina was meek.

She doesn't eat lobster herself, "others" would have ordered it.

But she “understands that such a meal causes irritation and indignation”.

The lobster dinner is the latest twist in an expense affair that is becoming increasingly uncomfortable for Hamburg's Greens.

Right in the middle: Gallina, 37, Senator of Justice in the red-green Senate since June.
