The future US President Joe Biden does not want to intervene in the process of a possible impeachment against incumbent Donald Trump.
The decision to open such a process lies with Congress, said Biden in Wilmington, Delaware.
His most important task and that of his future government is now to take care of the fight against the coronavirus, Covid-19 vaccinations and economic development.
However, the Democrat also said: "I have long thought that President Trump is unsuitable to hold office." That was the reason why he decided to run against Trump.
It is important that the Republican be removed from office, but: "The quickest way to make this happen is that we are sworn in on January 20th." Then Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris should take their oath in Washington.
When asked by journalists, Biden said that he welcomed that Trump wanted to stay away from the event.
On this question, he and his predecessor exceptionally agreed.
In the last few days Trump has shown the whole world once again what he is: "A shame for our country".
Trump's deputy, however, the outgoing US Vice President Mike Pence is welcome to the ceremony, Biden said.
It would be an honor to have Pence with me, he said.
Biden said he would speak to House Chairwoman Nancy Pelosi and other leading Democrats later in the day.
It will be about his program "and everything you want to discuss with me."
After Trump supporters stormed the Capitol, Pelosi threatened to open impeachment proceedings against Trump with the majority of Democrats in the House of Representatives.
