The "Policy Address" delayed last year even tried to help young people find their way in life, but it still failed to win the hearts of young people.

Of course, the media must be held accountable, and public relations must be held accountable.

But in the final analysis, to change the young people’s distrust of the SAR government, only by prescribing the right remedy in policy can they find a way out of confusion.

Many young people in Hong Kong are pessimistic about the prospects, and the high cost of living makes it difficult for them to live and work in peace.

I believe the public is aware of the issue of "difficulty in buying a home," but it is important to know that the housing problem is not simply a question of whether it can be bought or not.

Although there are some temporary measures in the Policy Address this time, they cannot meet the medium and long-term housing demand.

"Difficulty in home ownership" has become a prominent manifestation of "youth problem."

The four words "youth problem" are often circulated in the market.

Youth itself is not a problem, but the gap between youth and older generations has constituted many serious problems in Hong Kong in the past few years.

The youth problem is so intertwined, it is necessary to shed some light and analyze it before we can sort out some clues.

Below, let us discuss this issue together.

Economic bottleneck stagnation

We must first take a look at the development of the industry in Hong Kong.

At present, Hong Kong's economy is too single, and high-income jobs are concentrated in a few specific industries, such as financial services.

For example, working in public office or politics is not the "sun workers" mentioned in some comments. Either the participants are really passionate about public office, or because they have better conditions, they can hold multiple positions to serve as representatives.

The deformed economic structure has led to fierce competition in the job market, and many graduates have to face the situation of low starting salaries and difficulty in upward mobility.

There are countless young people with a college degree or above, but the government has not made great efforts to develop diversified industries to attract talents, making many young people studying art or creative useless, and many people are eventually forced to enter the financial service industry.

Recall that in the 1980s and 1990s, when there was "gold everywhere", Hong Kong's economy transformed from being dominated by manufacturing to dominated by services.

Statistics show that the manufacturing industry’s share of employment fell from 16% in 1996 to 6% in 2006, while the service industry rose from 74% to 85%.

Significant increases include the import and export industry, real estate business services, finance and insurance, and social services. These industries generally require higher language and professional skills, so they provide many upward opportunities for increasing academic qualifications. Young people, as long as they are diligent, they are able to buy a home.

Today's social development is encountering bottlenecks, and the financial service industry is nearly saturated, making it difficult for young people to find opportunities.

Although the government has established a youth development committee to try to provide youth with career planning or some internship opportunities, the number of beneficiaries is always limited.

What about the Greater Bay Area?

The political turmoil in Hong Kong in recent years has made the mainland and Hong Kong mistrust each other. Many people become disgusted as long as they hear the words "Greater Bay Area," "Mainland," or "Mainland," let alone going north to work.

Fifteen years ago, when the dry-Hong Kong relationship was more harmonious, more than 200,000 Hong Kong citizens went to work in the Mainland (7% of the total employed population in Hong Kong), but now many young people are reluctant.

It is foreseeable that the deep-seated contradictions between Hong Kong's political situation and cultural level cannot be broken down in one day, and young people who are willing to go north to develop are only a minority in society.

What is even more frustrating is that, in terms of cultural life and values, Hong Kong has always coexisted with the Mainland in the most alienated form since its opening as a port.

Why are young people generally reluctant to go to the Mainland for development?
