It happens time and again that GPS systems mislead drivers.

A 43-year-old and his family were suddenly driving towards the Brauneck summit on Monday.

When the SUV lost its way, a three-hour rescue operation followed.

  • The navigation system misled a 43-year-old driver on Brauneck

  • After a few kilometers uphill on a snow-covered forest path, the SUV got stuck

  • The recovery of the car was difficult and took around three hours

Lenggries - Originally, the parents were with two small children and their SUV on the way to the Brauneck area to enjoy nature.

"As the 43-year-old driver later described, however, his navigation device had misdirected him," reports the Tölz police chief Johannes Kufner.

The snow-covered forest path along the Murbach meandered further and further uphill.

The 43-year-old finds himself in a hopeless situation

Why the man drove on is not entirely clear.

He may have feared that he would not be able to start again on the steep and slippery path after stopping.

Or maybe he saw no way to turn.

After a few kilometers, however, nothing worked: the 43-year-old found himself in a hopeless situation around the Filzgraben.

The car eventually came off the road and got stuck in the snow.

The family was still lucky in the misfortune that the car had slipped off the path on the mountain side and not on the valley side.

In any case, the man himself could no longer free the car.

He shared his predicament over an emergency call.

Three-hour recovery of the car with towing service and tractors

An elaborate recovery of the car started.

"With a towing service and heavy tractors with winches, we managed to free the SUV and lead it undamaged into the valley," reports Kufner.

In fact, the action lasted around three hours.

The mountain rescue service was also on site with emergency services.

"Ultimately, the family was able to bring their day trip to an end unscathed," said the Tölz inspection manager.

"Relieved by the happy outcome, the driver was full of praise for the helpful and courteous Lenggries farmers and other helpers."
