Reinforcements from the National Guard were called in to the rescue.

The outskirts of the Congress, where the scaffolding planned for the nomination stands ready, are now protected by barricades.

The coronavirus pandemic has pushed the organizers of the ceremony to a reduced format this year.

Members of the public will be limited to a certain number and the parade to the White House will be replaced by a virtual event.
