The face of Estelle Mouzin was displayed once again on Saturday January 9 in the streets of Guermantes in Seine-et-Marne, eighteen years after the disappearance of the 9-year-old girl.

Silent, the crowd walked “

not to forget

” the girl, whose body remains untraceable despite the confessions of serial killer Michel Fourniret.

At the foot of the cherry tree planted in memory of Estelle in this suburban town of Seine-et-Marne, her father Eric Mouzin, who has fought relentlessly since his disappearance on January 9, 2003, estimated in front of a hundred people that "

the pieces of the puzzle came together little by little

”.

Before deploring once again "

the lack of responsiveness of investigators and justice

", responsible according to him "

largely because the body of Estelle remains untraceable

".

He recalled in particular that, in 2007, Michel Fourniret "

had asked to be heard

" for the disappearance of the girl with green eyes, a face that has become familiar with one of the most enigmatic "cold cases" French, but "

that, for reasons of ease, no follow-up had been given

”.

It is the Parisian investigating judge Sabine Kheris, eighth magistrate in charge of the investigation and the first to obtain progress since she took the head in 2019, who reopened this track several times rejected by the investigators.

Michel Fourniret, 78, sentenced to life imprisonment for the murders of seven young women or adolescent girls between 1987 and 2001, ended up confessing his responsibility in the disappearance of Estelle Mouzin in March 2020, after being questioned by his ex-wife and accomplice Monique Olivier.

At the beginning of December, the large-scale searches carried out in a former property of the serial killer to find the body of the victim remained without results.

"

Other excavations will take place

", affirmed Saturday the lawyer of the Mouzin family, Didier Seban, estimating that "

we have never been so close to discovering where Estelle is

".

The lawyer regretted that it was necessary "to

go three times before the Court of Cassation, seize the European Court of Human Rights and engage the gross negligence of the State for this investigation to be conducted normally

".

Beyond the single case of Estelle Mouzin, the association that bears her name denounces "

unacceptable dysfunctions

" in the judicial treatment of disappearances of children.

She calls for the creation of a "

body of judges specializing in cases of missing children

".
