The head of the Islamic Consultative Assembly in Iran, Muhammad Baqir Qalibaf, affirmed that the nuclear agreement signed between Iran and the group of major countries “is not sacred to us,” pointing out that what concerns his country is the lifting of sanctions and the embargo.

Qalibaf said in a speech during the open session of the Iranian Council today that the basic Iranian strategy in facing its enemies is to thwart the embargo in preparation for lifting it, explaining that "America's return to the agreement does not mean anything to Tehran, but what is important for it is to lift the embargo and sanctions."

Qalibaf stressed that the West must recognize the rights of the Iranian people and lift the embargo on them, indicating that his country will fulfill its obligations towards the nuclear deal if Western countries abide by them.

On May 8, 2018, the outgoing US President Donald Trump announced his country's withdrawal from the nuclear agreement between Iran and the P5 + 1 group and the reinstatement of sanctions against Tehran in defiance of the will of the international community and a violation of international decisions in this regard.
