The number of highly pathogenic bird flu cases detected in South Korea rose to 51 today, after another confirmed case was discovered at a duck farm in the southeastern province of the country.
The South Korean Yonhap Agency quoted officials at the Ministry of Agriculture as saying that the latest case was found in a farm of broiler ducks in South Gyeongsang Province, about 300 km from Seoul, the capital, and it is a virulent type H5N8, noting that tests are underway on 3 cases. Suspected, a freeze order has been issued for all poultry farms in the province.
South Korea has culled nearly 15 million birds as of last Friday due to the spread of bird flu in a number of provinces.
And the recent outbreak of the disease has led to restrictions imposed on the import of poultry from several countries, including China and Japan.
