The association “machBar im Würmtal” has been looking for accommodation for its own workshop for a long time.

Now he has finally struck gold, but there is a new problem.

Würmtal

- DIY is booming - and not just since Corona.

The group of those who enjoy doing it themselves is growing.

The “machBar” association wants to take this trend into account.

For three years, its 20 or so members have been offering courses and helping with their knowledge and experience.

There is still a lack of their own premises.

Now the dream of your own open workshop could finally come true.

One has a suitable domicile in prospect.

In the future, tradesmen could be found in Planegger Bahnhofstrasse 26, right next to the Edeka market.

We agree with the owner that the lease is ready to be signed.

But now the “Association for the Promotion of Self-Employed Work in the Würmtal”, as it is correctly called, lacks the urgently needed financial support.

Actually, one had hoped to have everything under one roof by January 1st.

Now the project may fail because of the money.

In order to be able to raise the rent, the association applied for a grant from the municipality of Planegg.

A decision should be made in December.

But because the Finance Committee canceled its meetings twice due to the corona, the whole thing becomes a hangover.

Not only that the owner is pushing for a decision, Lotar Krahmer, initiator of the association and board member, sees only a slim chance for the necessary money to be approved at the moment.

But he doesn't want to give up.

"A few eager hobbyists don't want to apply for public funds, but rather the workshop should be available to all Würmtal citizens," said Krahmer.

The model for “machBar” is the “Haus der Eigenarbeit” (HEi) in Munich.

In the open workshop, not only courses should take place, but anyone can come by and manufacture, restore or repair things, if desired under expert guidance.

The association does not want to compete with other providers such as the adult education center, but rather to cooperate with them.

220 square meters in the basement

The premises at Planegger Bahnhofstrasse 26 are centrally located and with their 220 square meters offer enough space for the club's offerings for the time being.

A cargo bike could find its place in the covered entrance area, while inside the room, which is almost 160 square meters, is to be used for a bicycle repair workshop, courses for CAD or 3D printing and other quieter work.

Lotar Krahmer would also like to use the counter of the former restaurant and set up a meeting point at this point where visitors, consultants and course instructors can eat and drink something and, above all, have a casual conversation.

Exhibitions or lectures should also be possible here.

There is also a room for a wood and ceramics workshop, as well as one where metal work would be possible.

Out of consideration for the guests of the Parkhotel Leiser, who stay on the first floor of the building (above the Edeka market), the association will refrain from noisy activities - with the exception of metalworking.

Because in this room a high level of sound insulation is guaranteed.

“MachBar” could even have barrier-free access via the underground car park.

Lotar Krahmer has already filled every corner of the premises at Bahnhofstrasse 26 with life, and he and his colleagues are waiting for a positive decision from the Planegg community to implement this.

"We hope to take over part of the rent so that we can make the start-up phase and show what we can do," said the association on the Internet.

But they also want to quickly approach other Würmtal communities and ask them to contribute to the costs.

The "Kreissparkasse Foundation for the District of Munich" has made a start.

She promised help in realizing the project - in the form of a financial injection of 20,000 euros.
