Last year, the number of trucks loaded with citruses exported to Iraq through the customs secretariat of the Albu Kamal border crossing reached about 4,500 refrigerated trucks carrying about 122 thousand tons of citrus.

In a statement to the representative of SANA, the customs secretary of the Albu Kamal border crossing, Asim Iskandar, explained that the goods exported through the secretariat to Iraq included, in addition to citrus fruits, "fruits, food, clothing, shoes, iron and plastic products, detergents, biscuits and sweets."

Iskandar pointed out that the number of cars departing from the Albu Kamal crossing loaded with export and transit materials to Iraq last year reached about 11,800 cars, at a rate of approximately 32 cars per day, stressing that there are no customs obstacles to the traffic of arrivals and departures, but no movement is currently recorded due to The conditions imposed by the Corona epidemic, while the movement of goods is taking place well in accordance with the applicable regulations.

With regard to the infrastructure at the Albu Kamal crossing, Iskandar confirmed the readiness of the crossing to receive arrivals and departures, as hangars and offices for on-duty employees were equipped to provide all facilities and receive transactions related to customs data from “export, transit and local consumption” and to prepare and pave the squares to facilitate the passage of departing and arriving trucks and wait for the completion of customs procedures. .

Iskandar pointed out that a building has been prepared for the scanners and backup generators to generate electricity in anticipation of any emergency failure in the electric current system. As for the bars, work is continuing to equip it.

It is noteworthy that the number of trucks loaded with citrus that were exported to Iraq through the Albu Kamal Customs Secretariat between 4-12-2019 until the end of January of last year reached 758 freight cars, with quantities exceeding 20 thousand tons.

Three border crossings link Syria with Iraq, the most important of which is Al-Bukamal, which is of particular importance as it represents an important artery for trade exchange and a corridor for exports and imports between the two sides.
