Madeira vacation: high case numbers cause travel warnings and tightened corona measures
Anyone who is currently thinking of a relaxed island vacation will find it difficult to find it.
In addition to the Canaries * and Azores, the island of Madeira is now one of the corona risk areas.
The number of infections has risen steadily in recent weeks and at the beginning of January
exceeded
the
limit of 50 new infections per 100,000 inhabitants within the last seven days
.
From this point on, the federal government will issue a travel warning for the affected area.
The Madeira Health Authority counted around 100 new cases almost every day in the last week (as of January 11).
With regard to the number of cases, the local corona measures have also been tightened.
As the Federal Foreign Office reports,
night curfews between 11 p.m. and 5 a.m. in public spaces will
apply until January 15
.
Exceptions only apply for professional, medical or other reasons of force majeure.
Meetings and celebrations are generally still possible in private rooms, restaurants or commercial rooms, but are limited to a maximum of five people per group - unless they belong to the same household.
In addition, the curfew should take effect on the weekend of January 16 and 17 from 6 p.m.
Restaurants have to close at 5 p.m. on these days.
