Netanya police arrested a 38-year-old Qalansawa resident on suspicion of being involved in two cases of sexual assault of women in the Sharon area in 2006 and 2014.
He is suspected of raping a 16-year-old minor in 2006, and attempting to rape another young woman in 2014.
Both cases occurred in the Sharon area, and his arrest was made possible thanks to a DNA sample.
The investigation reveals that the suspect collected the victims at one of the intersections in the Sharon area and drove them to a nearby grove, where he sexually assaulted them with threats and physical violence.
Police conducted an investigation and collected evidence, and following developments in the recent investigation thanks to DNA, suspicions against him grew and he was arrested.
He was brought to the Magistrate's Court in Petah Tikva today (Monday) and his detention was extended until next Sunday. The publication order on the affair was lifted, and with the move to an open investigation the police are investigating whether he was involved in further rape cases.
