The alarm increases in Mexico City due to the emergency due to covid-19.

Four days were enough for the hospital occupancy situation to become critical again after a short period of stable admissions.

The capital of the country went from having 9,212 sick people in hospitals on Friday to 9,479 for the start of this week and thus reaches 90% saturation.

"We associate it with the return of the holidays and some parties that may have been held on the 24th and 31st," reported Claudia Sheinbaum, the head of government, on Monday.

The mayor has said that several hospitals continue to expand their capacity to avoid collapse in what authorities have already called the worst peak of the pandemic.

This continues to grow, Sheinbaum added.

The situation in the capital faces a complex start to the year.

Hospital saturation is experiencing the consequences of the holiday season and holidays at the end of 2020. Mexico City has 32,396 people admitted to hospitals and adds 23,396 deaths.

This scenario will be affected by the deteriorating condition of the economy caused by the closure of businesses and the decrease in mobility dictated by the red traffic light.

All of this will represent a new challenge for the emergency.

Part of the restaurant union threatened the authorities to open the doors of their businesses from Monday.

This with the argument that the restrictions adopted two weeks ago by the local government to reduce the number of infections has seriously affected the viability of thousands of restaurants and bars in the Valley of Mexico.

The businessmen have been grouped under a slogan that summarizes the two options that are said to be bordered: "Open or Die."

Some chains and restaurants have materialized the threat and began to seat diners this Monday in the middle of the worst days of the pandemic in central Mexico.

"More than 500 restaurants in the CDMX will open from today because we can not resist anymore," said one of the partners of the Fisher's chain to the journalist Ciro Gómez Leyva.

The businessman said that the other option to survive is "to fire waiters and cooks."

Those affected say the pandemic has forced 7,500 restaurants in the capital to close their doors, the national chamber of industry said in October.

The situation threatens the employment of 300,000 people in the sector.

The head of government recalled this Monday that those restaurants that open their doors to seat customers at their tables in the middle of the red traffic light will be punished.

"In the first place there will be warnings and if this behavior continues there will be corresponding sanctions, suspension of activities or fines," Sheinbaum said this noon.

The capital administration, in the hands of Morena, indicates that those affected by the sector can benefit from a single aid and in a single payment of 2,200 pesos.

The local government has committed 220 million pesos for this program, which aims to help 100,000 people.

At the moment, only 11,500 people have benefited.
