Several cases of the British variant have been spotted in the region of Cholet (Maine-et-Loire) after the holiday visit of a family residing in England, announced Monday evening the Regional Health Agency (ARS) of the Pays de the Loire.

A family residing in England came to spend a family holiday for the Christmas holidays in the Cholet region.
Several family members have tested positive for COVID-19 and have isolated themselves,
”the ARS said in a press release.

Additional analyzes were sent to the National Reference Center, the results of which confirm, "
for 3 members of the family, the presence of the new English variant
", according to the same source.

The family, given the early symptoms, isolated themselves at home and did not participate in any gathering
" but, despite these precautions, "
the grandparents, with whom the family was lodged, were infected
", underlines the ARS.

One of the grandparents even "
had to be hospitalized at the Cholet hospital center, in a single room in a unit specially dedicated to the reception of patients with or suspected of COVID-19
", adds the Agency.
The ARS indicates that it has recommended, "
as a precaution, the screening of patients from the unit and the professionals who took care of the patient from December 29 to January 5 inclusive
".
