The cultivated areas of the wheat crop in Aleppo reached 142 thousand hectares for this year, out of the planned agricultural plan of 204 thousand hectares, of which 100 thousand hectares are irrigated wheat and 104 thousand hectares of Baal wheat, with an implementation rate of 74 percent.
The Director of Agriculture in Aleppo, Engineer Radwan Harsouni, said in a statement to SANA's correspondent that the decrease in the implementation rate of the agricultural plan is due to the lack of rainy season, which led to the reluctance of some farmers to grow rain-fed wheat, as the Directorate works to follow-up the cultivation of the crop with the peasant brothers through the agricultural sub-committees in the countryside and the extension unit teams.
Harsouni pointed out that the barley agricultural plan aims to cultivate an area of 160,000 hectares, of which 150,000 hectares have been implemented, as barley cultivation was prohibited in the first and second stabilization areas, as its cultivation turned into a wheat crop, and with regard to the fruitful planting, he indicated that the directorate’s plan aims to produce 22,000 plants that have been fully implemented. And selling it to farmers, in addition to importing olive seedlings by ten thousand seedlings and two thousand seedlings of pistachios from the rest of the governorates, and the sale is done according to the prices set by the Ministry of Agriculture and ranges between 400 and 800 Syrian pounds according to the type of seedlings. The forest plantations are also produced in the forest nursery with a production capacity of 300 thousand Forest plantations and the Al-Kamari nursery is being rehabilitated in the countryside of the Samaan region, with a completion rate of 90 percent.
Harsouni pointed to the continuation of the implementation of the artificial afforestation plan to cultivate 500 hectares on the Aleppo-Raqqa road and on the banks of Lake Al-Assad, and the implementation of afforestation campaigns during the celebration of the Festival of the Tree and the farmers in the countryside and the city. Hafer, Al-Bab and Manbij to provide advice and guidance to farmers.
