After a year-long hiatus due to the Corona pandemic, the artist, engineer Shafiq Al-Ghubra, returned with his sculptures in which he combined wood and light to the Arab Cultural Center in Abu Rummana, where his visitors used to see them in his previous exhibitions the past two years.
The exhibition, which opened this evening under the title "Dialogue of Light and Wood 3", enabled Al-Ghubra to create a special dialogue between the language of wood and the aesthetic of light that produced unique artistic pieces.
The artist Al-Ghubra said in a statement to Sana Cultural: “I tried through this exhibition to present something different through 60 works in which I mixed wood and light in different shapes and configurations, and in which I adopted abstraction by forming different types of wood with blocks and branches to make the recipient read the work in his own way.”
Ghubrah, who uses different types of wood, including olives, lemons, walnuts, berries, pine nuts and cedar, indicated his attachment to this substance, as each type of wood has a special spirit that he addresses in his own way.
Regarding his use of light with sculpture, he stated that he seeks with this merging to create a kind of harmony and dialogue between light and wood, stressing that there is a renewal in every exhibition with the quality of the light that he enters into the work and the nature of the sculptural work.
Plastic artist Rabab Ahmed, head of the Cultural Center in Abu Rummaneh, considered that the artist Al-Ghubra has a passion and passion for wood material that has become pliant in his hands, indicating that the exhibition Al-Ghubra is classified within functional art, that is, every sculptural piece has a function in use and an aesthetic function represented by employing wood in more than one piece of art Beautify anywhere.
Ahmed called on all those interested in plastic art and sculptors to see the experience of Al-Ghubra, which is characterized by his passion, control of his tools and the accumulation of his experiences.
