German Finance Minister Olaf Scholz called today on the outgoing US President Donald Trump to step down from his post the day before the inauguration of his successor, Joe Biden, after the riots and the storming of the Capitol headquarters in Washington last week.
Reuters quoted the German minister as saying during the "Reuters Next" forum held remotely: "Trump must leave before the inauguration day, he is responsible for what happened on Capitol Hill, there is no doubt about that and he must take responsibility and that is why I think he should leave."
Trump is facing increasing calls for his removal from office under the 25th Amendment to the US Constitution or through a parliamentary trial in Congress after he incited his supporters to violence and stormed the Capitol.
