The Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, the permanent representative of Syria to the United Nations, Dr. Bashar al-Jaafari, once again denounced the decades-long repressive practices of the Israeli occupation authorities against the people of the occupied Syrian Golan, which constitute a flagrant violation of international law, the United Nations Charter and relevant UN resolutions.

In a message he sent today to the Secretary-General of the United Nations, Antonio Guterres, al-Jaafari reiterated that UN Resolution 497 of 1981 confirms that the Syrian Golan is an occupied territory and that any measures taken by Israel, the occupying power in it, are null and void and have no legal effect, demanding pressure on the occupation to stop its practices The oppression against the people of the Golan, who have been under occupation since June 5, 1967.

In this context, al-Jaafari called on the United Nations to assume its responsibilities and put pressure on the occupation authorities to release the militant Nihal Suleiman al-Maqt and help enable her to return to her family and her land in the village of Majdal Shams in the occupied Syrian Golan, which she was arrested on June 10, 2020 and issued an illegal prison sentence. For three years, suspended, paying a hefty fine of one thousand five hundred dollars, and replacing imprisonment with hard labor daily and long-term.

Al-Jaafari pointed out that, last August, the occupation authorities forcibly transferred the captive Nihal to one of her detention centers inside occupied Palestine away from her land in the occupied Golan, with the aim of separating her and removing her from her land and her family and breaking her will, as they did with her captive brother Sidqi al-Maqt, "Syria Mandela", who imprisoned him The occupation authorities have been in their detention centers for 30 years.
