Facebook today (Tuesday) removed the page of the Iranian state television network Press TV, but returned to it after the channel appealed the decision.

About four million surfers liked the same page.

Press TV officials claimed in a tweet that the move was made without any warning or explanation.

"Over the past few years, Facebook - and with it YouTube, Twitter and Google - have systematically targeted Press TV alongside other media outlets in Iran and other countries, criticizing the West and the Israeli occupation of Palestine," it said.

Prior to returning the page to activity, the social network stated in a statement on its behalf that the move was "final" and added that it could not provide additional information on the subject for "reasons of safety and security".

"Facebook's latest attack on us is consistent with the way we covered the shocking violence in the US after the election," the Press TV website wrote in relation to the riots that took place last week on Capitol Hill.
