Finance Minister Israel Katz decided today (Tuesday) to appoint Oded Shamir as the director general of the Ministry of Finance. Shamir will replace Eran Yaakov, director of the Tax Authority, who will end his term as deputy director general. Yaakov took office after the director general resigned. The previous member, the Turner-Eyal Foundation, resigned in October.
The appointment requires the approval of the transitional government.
Shamir, 65, has previously served in a number of senior positions in government and the business sector.
In his positions in the government, Shamir served, among other things, as the director of the investment center in the Ministry of Industry and Trade and as the deputy secretary of the military to the defense minister.
