Did stray dogs lead to the death of a young roebuck on the Rottach?
The animal protection association has this suspicion after an incident at the weekend.
Rottach-Egern - Did stray dogs lead to the death of a young roebuck on the Rottach?
Johanna Ecker-Schotte, chairwoman of the animal welfare association, has this suspicion after an incident last weekend.
On Saturday morning a walker had seen a deer standing by the bed of the Rottach.
She informed the district hunter Hans Halmbacher.
He in turn reported to the animal welfare association in order to be able to secure first aid in an enclosure if necessary.
"When we got together, the young roebuck was lying in the bed of the stream, barely showing a movement," reports Johanna Ecker-Schotte, who drove to Rottach with employee Thomas Doreth.
The hunter then made the "only right decision" and released the animal.
Ecker-Schotte emphasizes that the young roebuck was apparently healthy and in good condition.
Enormous stress-related exhaustion could have been the cause of the incident, the chairwoman said.
She therefore suspects a stray dog as the trigger.
“Every year we ask for consideration for our wild animals, whether living in the forest or by the water.
Dogs should be on a leash when they are not available, ”demands Ecker-Schotte.
People and dogs should stay on the designated paths.
The chairwoman, who is indignant about the “persistent lack of insight of some dog owners”, regrets that there is no rest for the game even at night because people are out with headlamps.
As for the specific incident, she suspects because of the location that it was an animal that was spotted with the drone last spring with three other fawns.
