The district chairman of the hotel and restaurant association had feared: It will take time until the state subsidies reach the restaurateurs.

In fact, many do not even have the November aid in their accounts.

But giving up is out of the question for most of them.

Bad Tölz-Wolfratshausen - All catering establishments in Germany have been closed since the beginning of November.

Or, as Hans Kremko from the “Kramerwirt” in Arzbach puts it: “We haven't made any money for two and a half months, but we have costs.” He and landlady Michaela Kurz are “more than desperately waiting” for the government subsidies for November.

But nothing has come yet.

"Thank God we have an extremely patient landlord," says Kremko.

“That's what saves us right now.” But not everyone is so lucky.

About 600 restaurants in the district are struggling

"For some it gets really tight," says Monika Poschenrieder.

The district chairwoman of the hotel and restaurant association estimates that so far only about 25 percent of the November aid has been paid out.

The remaining funds should then flow from next week.

The landlady of the Forellenhof "Walgerfranz" in Bad Tölz has only received an advance payment and is waiting for the rest. For a few days now, restaurateurs have been able to apply for December aid through their tax advisor.

The situation is not funny for any of the estimated 600 restaurants in the district.

"If we continue to get support, most of them will get through."

Most of them have not yet received any November help

Despite the difficult situation, Peter Frech is also optimistic about the future - even if the landlord of the "Jailhouse" in Bad Tölz does not assume that the bottom line is that the restaurateurs will really be 75 percent of the average monthly turnover from the previous year.

“I reckon with 40 percent, because the money has to be taxed.” Frech is currently waiting for the November aid - and is using the time to make plans.

“We are currently working with the city to do something again in Tölz.” At the same time, he and Stephanie Hörmann are planning the US car meeting, the Harley meeting and the trucker meeting again for this year.

“You have to give people a perspective for the future,” says Frech.

Whether the events can take place, of course, depends on the development of the pandemic.

And from the authorities.

Thanks to the vaccine, Peter Frech assumes that the catering establishments will be able to return to a limited normalcy in summer.

"At least the ones that still exist."

Fear of the future remains

One of them will be Rudolf Rohrmoser.

The owner of the country inn “Reindlschmiede” in Heilbrunn says he is lucky not to have to pay high rents.

“If I still had them, it wouldn't work.” But this way Rohrmoser and his team can keep their heads above water with government aid.

The VAT cut, the large outdoor restaurants and the many day-trippers in the summer were also helpful.

But Rudolf Rohrmoser is worried because many companies have postponed tax prepayments and back payments.

But at some point it would be payday.

"That scares me."

The fear of the future remains in the "Kramerwirt" in Arzbach.

After more than 30 years in the restaurant business, Hans Kremko and Michaela Kurz thought about throwing the gun in the grain.

“But we hope that the situation will improve and that we still have a few successful years ahead of us,” says Hans Kremko.

The odds are not bad if the coronavirus is contained.

The restaurant hall is already booked out for the whole year.
