Now the country is tightening the lockdown - even supermarkets have to close.
The

Beirut -
A hard
lockdown
with a curfew after dark came into effect

Lebanon
only last Thursday (January 7th)

corona infections
.
Just one day later,
however
, the Ministry of Health in
Beirut
reported
a new high with
5440 new cases
within one day.
With regard to the population of around six million, that would correspond to around 70,000 corona cases in
Germany
.

Therefore,
Lebanon
declared a
health
emergency
on Monday
and decided to
further tighten
the already tough
corona lockdown
.
According to the government in
Beirut
, an
eleven-day full curfew will
begin
on Thursday
.
Even
supermarkets will
then be closed.
You are only allowed to offer a delivery service during the day.
In many shops there was already a great rush and sometimes chaos on Monday because people wanted to stock up on groceries.

Lebanon's Health Minister
Hamad Hassan
said the
corona pandemic
had reached dangerous proportions.
Over
Christmas
and New Year, the government
relaxed
the
corona restrictions
.
For example, restaurants and bars were allowed to reopen.
Now, however, the
hospitals
in
Lebanon are
complaining about a lack of free beds in the intensive care units.
Patients sometimes have to wait a long time for treatment in front of the clinics.
Corona in Lebanon: Local media speak of failure of the government
The incumbent Prime Minister
Hassan Diab
said, according to media reports, the
Lebanese
now have to be protected from themselves because of the carelessness of many people.
Local media, on the other hand, speak of a
failure by the government
in dealing with the
corona pandemic
.
After her
resignation
as a result of the
explosion in the port of Beirut
at the beginning of August, which left more than 190 dead, the current
government is
only in office.
The formation of a new cabinet stalled.
The
Lebanon
also experienced one of the heaviest in months
economic crises
in its history.
Many people have
slipped
into
poverty
