They have become the heroes of the neighborhood.
Sunday January 10, at snack time, Matéo Klein and Kellyan Palatin were playing, as usual, in the park of La Douce, between Belfort and Bavilliers.
The two schoolchildren were stopped by a cracking noise, not far from an icy pond: two people had passed through the ice.
The two teenagers do not hesitate a second and rush to the pond to help the 3-year-old boy and his 33-year-old father, says
L'Est Républicain
.
The Belfort firefighters were immediately called by the adults who witnessed the scene.
Several vehicles are dispatched to the scene: water rescuers, three ambulances and an officer.
Upon their arrival, the firefighters find that the 3-year-old child has been saved from certain death by the two 13 and 14-year-olds.
“
Kellyan and Matéo, noting that no one seemed to spontaneously commit to assisting the father and his son, decided to do so.
Listening only to their courage, they grabbed the child and repositioned him on the bank.
The firefighters' divers proceeded to extract the 33-year-old man, still submerged in the body of water but stabilized with a rope by the first responders while waiting for the 'specialized team
