Iran began to develop fuel based on uranium metal material that can be used to develop nuclear weapons - so announced today (Wednesday) International Atomic Energy Agency of the United Nations. This is another violation of the nuclear deal with six world powers, as the Iranians click on the cancellation of US sanctions.

In recent months, Iran has accelerated violations of the deal, as some of the steps it took were required by a law passed in response to the killing of its most senior nuclear scientist, Muhsin Fahrizadeh, in November, which Tehran attributed to Israel. US President Donald Trump's withdrawal from the agreement and the imposition of sanctions will

put pressure on US President-elect Joe Biden, who took office next week and pledged to bring the United States back into the deal if Iran returns to abide by the terms of the agreement.

The chairman of the International Atomic Energy Agency Rafael Grossi today informed the member countries of the agency about the latest developments regarding Iranian plans for uranium metal production, as part of its stated goal to design an improved fuel type for its research reactor in Tehran. The nuclear deal, though it refuses to call them violations, leaves this determination to the parties. The

deal imposes a 15-year ban on Iran producing or obtaining uranium metal, a sensitive material that can be used at the core of a nuclear bomb. Obtained by Reuters, it was stated that Iran has indicated that it plans to produce metal from natural uranium, then produce uranium metal enriched up to 20% in fuel for the research reactor in Tehran.

Under the deal, this can only happen in small groups and in consultation with the parties to the deal after 10 years.

Iran also plans to enrich uranium to more than 20%, a level it recently reached before the 2015 deal, at the site embedded in Purdue.

She started the process again last week.

So far, the Iranians have reached 4.5%, above the 3.67% limit imposed on the deal, but still below the 90% level needed for nuclear weapons.

US intelligence agencies believe that Iran had a secret and coordinated program to acquire nuclear weapons, which stopped in 2003. Iran denies that it has ever tried to acquire nuclear weapons.
