Clashes between police and demonstrators broke out today (Wednesday) in Nazareth during a protest against Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, ahead of his visit to the city's immunization center.

Four of the protesters were arrested - three men and a woman.

The visit comes a day after Ali Salam, the mayor of Nazareth, appeared in a video in which he expresses support for educator Nail Zoabi, who wants to run on the Likud list.

Netanyahu will pay a media visit to the "Diana" vaccine center in the city center, followed by a closed media meeting with Salam.

Zoabi is a Muslim educator from Kfar Nin who has been expressing pro-Zionist views for years, and is considered a staunch supporter of Netanyahu.

He recently retired from running a school in Tamra to enter politics full-time.

Yesterday, a rumor was spread that Netanyahu intends to reserve Salam himself a high place on the list, and that his visit today is not only intended to encourage vaccines against the corona virus in Arab society, but to announce his affiliation with Salam.

The controversial mayor is known not only as a staunch opponent of the joint list and figures in it but also as one who does not hesitate to publicly voice harsh criticism against the government policy, which he claims discriminates against the city - even during the Corona crisis.

He also noted that "a lot of politicians have already fallen into Bibi's honey trap, like Ganz and even Mansour Abbas and here he is doing his game once again with not so strong and experienced people."

He called on MK Abbas to back down. "If you support someone then it will be someone who will improve the Arab sector and not someone who spreads racism and threatens us," he said.

According to Fidaa Vegan Abu Debai, a resident of Nazareth, who previously ran for a seat in the Knesset on behalf of Hadash, "it is completely clear that his goal is to reach every vote, even those he despises. However, she clarified that" we will not agree to receive services in exchange for losing our dignity. As equal citizens, we deserve rights, equal opportunities and the preservation of our national values even without bowing to the ruler. What she is sure of is that he will not succeed in this. "
