CES 2021: Blue, a machine for making your own household products

2021-01-13T19:20:28.129Z

The start-up Wecleen, based in Aix-en-Provence, wants to facilitate the design of homemade detergents.

Home-made is on the rise.

After yogurt makers, bread machines, those for making cosmetics, here is Blue, the machine for making household products.

"

Our idea is to replace the cupboard filled with flasks with a machine barely larger than a bottle and very easy to use,

" explains Damien Oursel, co-founder of Wecleen, at the origin of Blue.

Goodbye to plastic bottles and classic detergents with their too often problematic environmental impact.

The subject is all the more pointed as household products are sold diluted, leading the consumer to pay for water at the price of an active principle.

Blue therefore wants to offer an alternative to this logic.

Not everyone has the time, or the inclination, to make their cleaning products at home.

With our machine, it becomes really accessible,

”says Damien Oursel.

From three ingredients, water, salt and vinegar, Blue makes it possible to produce a disinfectant and a cleaner, thanks to an electrolysis.

The only downside: not everyone is a chemist.

To overcome this difficulty, Blue plans to market 50 milliliters of concentrated products, making it possible to manufacture 8 liters of household product, at an average cost of two euros per liter.

This solution avoids the problems associated with possible dosing errors.

The consumables are packaged in a bottle that goes into a letterbox and can be returned in the same way to be refilled, always in order to limit the environmental impact.

129 euros per machine

"

The active product has a satisfactory shelf life as long as it is stored in a bottle, but when it is released into wastewater after use, it is no longer polluting

", affirms Damien Oursel, adding an additional ecological argument to Blue.

The start-up plans to market its machine, which is assembled in France, 129 euros.

Initially, 2,000 parts will be manufactured.

I can't imagine a business that isn't profitable.

We are going to launch this first phase of production, then move on to ramp-up,

”explains Damien Oursel.

But it still has to go through the distribution stage.

Blue should be marketed from March but its founders are banking on Virtual CES to find distributors.
