A 14-month-old child died after falling from the fourth floor of a building in Clermont-Ferrand, police said on Wednesday (January 13).

The boy died around 3:00 p.m. after being taken by firefighters to hospital, a police spokeswoman said.

A mother saw something fall from the building and sent her daughter who herself discovered the body at the foot of the building,
" she added.
"
The child was obviously not alone in the apartment during the tragedy,
" said the police.
According to the daily
La Montagne,
which revealed the information, the boy would have managed to cross the open window of an apartment, escaping the vigilance of adults who were there. An investigation was opened to determine the exact circumstances of the tragedy and witness hearings were held at the Clermont-Ferrand police station.
