Erding -

An innovative air filter was installed in the Erdinger Westpark on Johann-Auer-Straße.

The "City Tree" with bench and real, living moss, hidden behind wooden slats, removes fine dust particles from the air and enriches them with oxygen.

It was set up by the Berlin company Green City Solutions.

The project was initiated by the Erdinger SPD, which submitted an application to the city council.

Inside the City Tree is complex technology that both controls the water supply to the moss and measures the air quality of the environment.

It can purify up to 3500 cubic meters of air per hour - this roughly corresponds to the hourly breathing volume of 7000 people.

In doing so, it removes up to 82 percent of the particularly harmful fine dust from the air.

And it only needs the power of five light bulbs, around 125 watts.

"The reduction of fine dust and clean air are among the most important challenges facing cities," said Alexander Gutwill, leader of the SPD parliamentary group in the city council, at the inauguration.

According to the SPD council, the City Tree is a perfect complement to conventional urban green spaces, i.e. trees.

“Air pollution is one of the biggest environmental problems in the world.

Our mission is to find a solution for particularly polluted inner-city areas so that as many people as possible can breathe clean air there too, ”explains Peter Sänger, co-founder and CEO of Green City Solutions.

The advantage of this biofilter is that it is never “full” - the captured fine dust is converted into biomass by the moss.

A side effect: The filtered air is noticeably cooler, which makes it ideal for a little breather in the summer months during a shopping tour in Westpark.

The City Tree was sponsored by the parcel service GLS Germany, which has its warehouse not far from the filter system Am Kletthamer Feld.
