According to data from the Employment Center of the University of Hong Kong, the number of vacancies received in the fourth quarter of last year fell by nearly one quarter year-on-year. According to statistics, the vacancies of HKUST for the whole year were about 24% less than the previous year, or nearly a quarter year-on-year. The job center director Li Yongqin pointed out that the reduction of jobs was concentrated in the retail, catering, and tourism industries, but there were fewer students in related subjects at HKUST. The impact is not too great.

Recruitment work may slow down due to the epidemic.

Lin Wu Runyi also pointed out that, referring to the number of vacancies in the past few years, although the number last year was lower than that of the previous year, "but 2019 is unexceptional," the number is similar to 2017, and it is not considered the situation. Too bad.

She also pointed out that many banks MT are hiring as usual. However, due to the impact of the epidemic, recruitment may be slowed down. Some companies used to post recruitment from September to October, but this year will be delayed to November to December.

As for the starting salary of graduates, Lin said that it is similar to previous years and has not changed significantly.

The virtual internship program will be launched


to help students increase their advantages when applying, and the job center will increase internship opportunities in various ways, including launching a virtual internship program and participating in the government-funded "STEM Internship Scheme" (STEM Internship Scheme).

According to the Job Center, it plans to provide more than 500 internship opportunities in the summer of last year and this winter, and provide employers with a total of nearly 10 million in subsidies.

In the future, HKUST plans to hold an online career expo in March or April this year. It is expected that more than 250 companies will participate.
