District -

Until Tuesday afternoon, the upper pharmacy in Dachau was extremely quiet.

Then the "Södersche Bomb" burst: Starting next Monday, Bavaria is introducing an obligation to wear FFP2 masks on buses, trains and in shops.

“A sensible thing,” says pharmacist Maximilian Lernbecher.

In the interview he explains why the FFP2 masks are important, how to care for them and that there are enough for everyone.

Why are the FFP2 masks so important?

The masks have a high protection factor, they filter 95 percent of all fine dust particles, droplets and infectious elements from the air.

The FFP2 mask also protects against quarantine: Anyone who has had contact with an infected person and wore an FFP2 is not considered contact person 1. The FFP2 mask brings the numbers down - and Söder also carries out the duty in anticipation of the contagious corona mutation from the UK.

Do children also have to wear FFP2 masks?

No.

They are not approved for children.

It takes a certain amount of pull and lung strength to breathe through the masks.

But children are not the majority of those infected either.

How often can you wear the masks and how do you properly care for them?

Basically they are single-use items.

So please do not boil or rinse in the oven.

The plastics of the layers can melt together, which limits the filter effect of the mask.

You can wear the mask for eight hours, then throw it away.

For everyday life this means: hang the mask on the window handle in the UV light after shopping, leave it hanging for three to five days - so you can wear it again and again for weeks.

If you have to wear them longer, I recommend taking a ten-minute break after 30 minutes to take a deep breath in the fresh air.

On longer train journeys, the mask should be changed after 60 minutes.

Where are these masks available?

In pharmacies, drug stores, online.

Are there differences in quality?

Yes.

It is important: The CE number must be printed on the side, FFP2 must be on it.

How much do the masks cost or how much can they cost?

Anything between 3 to 5 euros is absolutely fine.

How popular are the masks?

Is there enough for everyone?

Yes there is enough for everyone.

Because the issue of FFP2 masks to corona risk groups has been running since December, the pharmacies have ordered in stock.

Therefore, the time when the obligation to wear is introduced is favorable.

I have 30,000 masks in stock and ordered that many again.

We pharmacists also help each other out.

Not only private individuals, but also the city and municipalities, kindergartens and shops ask.
