Democratic House Speaker Nancy Pelosi today (Wednesday) provided an unexpected tribute to the Israeli spiritual world, choosing to quote Israeli poet Ehud Manor during a debate on the removal of US President Donald Trump from the US House of Representatives.
"In these sad times, I remember the words of the great Israeli poet, Ehud Manor, who wrote: 'I will not be silent because my country has changed its face, I will not give up on her, I will mention, and I will sing here in her ears, until she opens her eyes,'" Pelosi told her fellow legislators.
"I call on Republicans to keep their eyes open and finally acknowledge the president's responsibility for his actions. Our security, our future and our democracy are at stake.
It is not clear where Pelosi draws his acquaintance with Ehud Manor's poetry, but many speakers on the Israeli left and right have used these lines in the past to protest against various processes in Israeli society.
