There have been repeated scandals about the MTR Shazhong line project, and many overruns have been postponed. MTR originally planned to switch to a new signal system on the East Rail line in September last year, but "Hong Kong 01" was the first to report that the system had a "wrong line" accident. The MTR stopped the replacement and established an independent investigation committee to investigate the incident.

After several delays, the cross-harbour section of the Sha-Central Line, the "Hung Hom to Admiralty Section", is set to open to traffic in the first quarter of 2022. However, the latest document submitted by the Transport and Housing Bureau to the Legislative Council mentioned that There are hidden worries about whether to open to traffic on schedule. "The progress of the new signal system solution and the effectiveness of the progress recovery measures are critical." This means that the cross-sea section may be delayed again due to signal system problems.

The MTR originally planned to switch to a new signal system on the East Rail Line in September last year. However, before the replacement, "Hong Kong 01" revealed that the system was faulty, which may cause trains to run on branch lines, such as Fo Tan and Racecourse stations, Lo Wu and Lok Ma Zhou station, etc., mistakenly followed the section of the previous train and entered the wrong station.

Eventually, the MTR stopped the replacement and established an independent investigation committee.

"Hong Kong 01" later revealed in November the same year that the signal system had a "fake flashing light" accident during the trial run, and misjudged that the train was flashing. The control center once required all trains to stop, but the train did not actually have a flashing .

The Transport and Housing Bureau recently submitted a document to the Legislative Council to account for the latest progress of the Shah-Central Line project.

Before the signal system problem was revealed, the MTR had stated that the target opening period for the cross-sea section was the first quarter of 2022, but it had repeatedly stated that it was "challenging".

In the latest document, it further stated that "whether the target opening date for the first quarter of 2022 can be maintained, the progress of the East Rail Line's new signal system solution and the effectiveness of the progress recovery measures are critical."

The document continued that the Highways Department and the MTR are assessing the impact of the suspension of the replacement of the new signal system on the East Rail Line and the impact on the opening date of the cross-harbour section.

In other words, the cross-sea section may be affected by signal system problems, and the opening to traffic may be postponed again.
