When can the slopes in Germany, Austria and Italy be skied again despite Corona?

Despite the closed slopes, numerous people romped about tobogganing or winter hiking in the ski areas of Germany over the holidays.

From January 11th, you can only move 15 kilometers from your place of residence in Corona hotspots * - this also prevents day trips.

In addition, there will soon be not only a quarantine, but also a test requirement when returning from a risk area.

Nevertheless, many are still hoping for a ski season in early 2021. When can we expect ski areas in Germany, but also Austria and Italy, to reopen?

Corona 2021: When will ski resorts in Germany open again?

The lockdown was originally planned until January 10th - without an extension, the ski resorts in Germany could theoretically have reopened.

The likelihood of this, however, was slim.

Due to the continued high number of corona cases, the measures were

extended until January 31

and tightened further.

Day trips in particular should be prevented by a 15-kilometer radius of movement in hotspots.

That's why German ski areas will probably remain closed until the end of January.

The ski slopes in Austria have been

open

under

strict conditions

since Christmas Eve

.

Skiers over 14 years of age must

wear

an

FFP2 mask

in gondolas or when standing in line

.

Some cable cars sell such masks on site, while others ask skiers to bring them with them.

Sometimes only half as many guests are transported in the mountain railways so that the distance rules can be observed.

Skiers should buy their tickets online.

Although the ski areas are open,

foreign tourists

are not

welcome in Austria

.

This is ensured by a mandatory

ten-day quarantine

, which is intended to put a stop to day tourists.

This can only be shortened by a negative corona test, which is carried out on the fifth day after arrival at the earliest.

In addition, the lockdown planned for January 18 will be extended by one week to January 24.

Hotels and restaurants - as well as mountain restaurants - remain closed for at least as long.

Skiing in Switzerland in 2021: what is allowed

In Switzerland, the cantons themselves decide whether the

ski areas will

remain

open

or not.

This is why the mountain railways run in many ski areas, and hotels are also largely open.

According to the Swiss Tourism Association,

strict protection concepts are

adhered to.

However, which cantons currently offer skiing holidays can change constantly.

In the canton of Zurich, for example, the lifts are to be shut down until January 22nd.

The Swiss Tourism Association points out that travelers should find out about the current status directly from the destinations and providers.

Italy vacation 2021: Current status of the ski areas

According to the current status, the

ski areas of Italy will open on January 18th

.

The opening was originally planned for the first week of January, but many regions and provinces asked for a postponement to adjust the health rules.

Above all, it should be discussed how fully the lifts and gondolas can be occupied.

As soon as the ski season begins, a mask requirement in the cable cars and distance rules apply in any case.

The gondolas should be disinfected regularly, there will also be protective barriers and the ski buses will increase their frequency.

In order to be allowed to enter Italy, tourists from all EU countries must present an

entry

declaration

and a

negative PCR or antigen test

, which must not be older than 48 hours.

If you cannot present a negative Corona test, you have to go into quarantine, according to the Federal Foreign Office.

In addition, the entry must be communicated to the responsible local health department.
