Weather in Germany: snow, icy cold and squalls - DWD announces warning via Twitter
Update from January 12th, 9.31 a.m
.: The weather in Germany is currently down to deep minus degrees *.
Fresh snow between 10 and 30 centimeters is expected.
The German Weather Service warns: “Partly dangerously slippery”.
Update January 10th, 2:57 p.m.:
From Monday to Tuesday, meteorologists expect
southern Germany
to
experience
heavy
snowfalls in
some
cases
.
It should then snow through for up to three days, which is why
weather experts
expect
some
chaos
on the streets.
Especially
on Monday night,
the
German Weather Service
warns of
extreme cold - before the big "snow bomb" bursts.
During the day there is
permafrost
between minus three and
minus six degrees Celsius
almost everywhere
- even when the sun is shining, the roads can be dangerously slippery.
While it is
sunny and clear all Sunday
in
southern Germany on the edge of the Alps
, the clouds could also
retreat
inland at
night
.
Wherever it clears up,
freezing cold
and
frost
between minus eleven and
minus 16 degrees Celsius
can be expected.
The
DWD has
therefore issued a
level
two
weather warning,
especially on the edge of the Alps and for the Bavarian foothills
.
But this weather warning also applies in the region around Landshut on Sunday.
Original article dated January 9, 2021:
Berlin / Munich - building a snowman, sledding and snowball fights.
In the last few days, many areas in
Germany
have
enjoyed snow
.
Even the north got a few flakes.
And the way it looks, the trend is not ending yet.
But it should be icy cold.

Weather in Germany: minus 13 degrees - temperatures "colder than all of last winter"
“
We
are facing a couple of
really cold nights
,” says meteorologist Andreas Machalica at
wetter.com
.
While it has snowed frequently in the last few days, the cold is now coming to
Germany
.
Especially in the south, the temperatures are “sometimes colder than all of last winter”, according to the meteorologist.
In the night of Sunday it gets really icy.
At the
edge of the Alps
, temperatures drop to
-13 degrees
.
For comparison: Last year it was a minimum of -8 degrees.
"On the edge of the Alps and in the Black Forest, sometimes severe frost below -10 degrees," warns the
German Weather Service
.
“Freezing drizzle” poses a risk of slipperiness here.
So: drivers pay attention.
There have already been numerous ice accidents this winter.
Good Morning!
On the #weekend, the weather will be calmer, but much colder!
Icy nights threatened.
In the # south even below minus 10 degrees!

And
snow
?
Eastern
Germany
in particular can
still look forward to
light snowfall
.
The clouds move into the Ore Mountains and let the last few flakes fall into the night.
Most of the time it is "a few centimeters of
fresh snow
" and "hardly any significant increase in new snow," according to the
DWD
.
In the rest of the country it can become slippery in places above about 400 meters.
Light rain is to be expected on the North Sea coast.
Weather in Germany: It remains icy - two-digit minus degrees - weather contrasts are building up
But what happens next?
The contrasts will likely increase over the course of the next week.
Mild air comes into the country from the west, while the cold air comes from the east.
The lows on Monday are "from north-west to south-east between +4 and
-11 degrees
, in alpine valleys sometimes even below", informs the
DWD
.
So
Germany is
experiencing mixed conditions.
In many regions, changeable weather can be expected - partly rain, partly snow - and milder temperatures.
Stormy gusts are predicted at the sea and in low mountain ranges.
