The French Formula 1 Alpine team (ex-Renault) aims to "regularly compete for the podiums" from the change in technical regulations planned for the 2022 season, said its new CEO Laurent Rossi Thursday.

"The 2021 season (which is due to start on March 28 in Bahrain, editor's note) will be a year of transition for us as for all the teams (before the introduction of a new generation of single-seaters with redesigned aerodynamics, editor's note) but the climb to the top has already started ”, assured Rossi on the occasion of the presentation of Groupe Renault's new strategic plan.

Returning to F1 as a manufacturer (and no longer only as an engine manufacturer) in 2016, the Renault team changes its identity to become Alpine, the “avant-garde brand” of the automotive group, in 2021. Its single-seaters will therefore also change colors. , going from black and yellow to blue, white and red, according to a provisional version of the livery of its single-seater called A521 presented on Wednesday.

"At the present time, there should no longer be any doubt that motor racing in general and F1 in particular will remain at the heart of our brand," insisted Rossi, whose appointment was announced on Monday, succeeding to Cyril Abiteboul.

“The next generation of Alpine products will be based on the latest innovations from Groupe Renault and will benefit from F1 technology and expertise: efficient energy management, safety systems and connectivity solutions derived from the high performance of F1 in terms of analysis and data processing which will bring a significant competitive advantage to Alpine products ”, details the team in a press release.

“Formula 1 also offers a huge marketing platform with half a billion fans, representing a unique opportunity to strengthen the image of the Alpine brand on a global scale,” she adds.

For Renault, the objective is to be “profitable in 2025, including investments in motorsport”.

In F1, this involves the introduction this season of an annual spending cap of 145 million dollars (120 million euros) per team, which will be reduced subsequently.
