China: First death from Corona After 8 months, international experts have arrived in Wuhan

China recorded today (Thursday) the first coronation virus death after eight months, with a World Health Organization delegation arriving in Wuhan to investigate the virus's sources after delays raised questions about the access the experts will receive.

Fearing a renewed outbreak, China has imposed a renewed closure on millions of civilians, causing anxiety among residents.

"I have not seen the words 'death from a virus' for so long, it is a shock! I hope the epidemic will pass soon," wrote one of the Vivo surfers, the Chinese equivalent of Twitter, where the hashtag "a new death in my pocket" reached one hundred million views.

The head of the international expert delegation, Peter Ben Ambrak, said the group would go into solitary confinement for two weeks at the hotel before the investigation began, after two of the group's 15 members remained in Singapore after corona antibodies were found in their blood.

He warned that "it may be a very long journey before we get a full understanding of what happened."

Beijing claims the virus may not have originated in Wuhan, but was only first identified there in late 2019. "I do not think we will have clear answers after this initial mission, but we will be on our way," Ambark said.

In Geneva, the World Health Organization is today holding an emergency hearing on virus mutations that have been identified in the UK and South Africa and have been linked to a high rate of infection with the virus in two countries suffering from hospital burdens.

Regardless of the sources of the virus, scientists say that mass vaccinations are the only way to overcome the epidemic, which has claimed the lives of close to two million people worldwide, although many believe these are missing data.
