In lockdown it is difficult to find the new, great love.
But there is no safety margin on the Internet.
This took advantage of a stranger who tried to trick a woman from the eastern county.
Now the Kripo Erding is investigating.
Dorfen - The police headquarters of Upper Bavaria North reports that the 44-year-old fell for a so-called love scamming fraudster.
In November she met the man through a dating platform.
Both were in a close chat relationship.
The police assume that the perpetrator tried to arouse great emotions in order to exploit them profitably.
"He wanted to convert the time invested into cash," said a spokesman for the Presidium.
The stranger pretended to need a four-digit amount of cash for an alleged tax payment to accept his inheritance in Togo.
In good faith, the victim transferred the requested amount to a foreign account.
When he asked for money again in December, the woman became suspicious - and filed a complaint.
The Kripo advises to be cautious with Internet acquaintances as well as to break off the contact with money claims and never to transfer money.
Payments that have already been made should be reversed immediately, chat history should be saved and the police should be called in.
