New York-Sana
Today, the New York State Democrat Attorney filed a complaint against New York City Police for cracking down on protesters during anti-racism protests after the murder of African American George Floyd.
"There is no doubt that the New York Police force has repeatedly used excessive force and unlawful brutality," AFP quoted Attorney Letizia James as saying in a statement after investigating more than 1,300 complaints received by her office.
"From May to December 2020, New York police blatantly carried out unjustified arrests, in which they used batons, pepper spray, and cordon techniques against largely peaceful protesters," she said, citing 155 cases in which police used "excessive and unreasonable force."
The prosecutor called for "structural reforms and the appointment of an external observer to verify the conduct of demonstrations in the future."
And many American cities last year witnessed massive demonstrations in protest against the violence and racism of the American police, and many demonstrators chanted the slogan "Stop funding the police" following the strangulation of Floyd by a white policeman.
