Geneva - Sana
The International Committee of the Red Cross has expressed its concern about the repercussions of the outgoing US administration’s decision to designate the Yemeni Ansar Allah movement as a "terrorist organization" to deliver vital aid to Yemeni civilians suffering from hunger and disease.
Reuters quoted Dominic Stilhart, director of operations at the International Committee of the Red Cross, as saying today that the committee urges countries that impose such measures to consider humanitarian exemptions to mitigate any negative impact on the population and on aid.
He added that the Red Cross is increasingly concerned about the humanitarian situation in Yemen, as it is conducting its second largest operation in the world as civilians suffer from highly contagious diseases, hunger and high food prices.
He indicated that the International Committee of the Red Cross is particularly concerned about the potential negative impact of classification on humanitarian work, which may lead to obstruction or delay, adding that the increased operational risks and the likelihood that the banking and private sector attempts to avoid risks due to the classification may ultimately restrict humanitarian work in Yemen. .
And US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo announced last Sunday that his country intends to classify the Yemeni Ansar Allah movement in what Washington calls the black list of terrorist organizations.
