The Supreme Court ruled today (Thursday) that the primaries for the Labor Party presidency will be held in ten days, on January 24.
This follows a legal battle waged by the party chairman MK Amir Peretz and Merav Michaeli, after breaking passed a resolution that transferred power Labor Conference selection, but MK Michael fought a legal and District Court obliged him to overturn the decision.
Top party management recommended and Liu The current attorney general has withdrawn the petition they filed against the district court's decision to oblige the party to hold primaries.
Once the petition continues, internal elections will be held among all Labor functionaries, following the district court's decision last week.
So far, two members of the party have announced that they will run for office: MK Merav Michaeli and Adv. Gil Beilin.
Peretz announced that he is retiring from politics and that he will not run for the next Knesset, and Minister Itzik Shmuli has not yet decided whether to run in the primaries.
